Keeping up with the Heritage Centre

With July in full bloom and the sun sparkling, we are thrilled to launch our new Adventure Pack. It’s an incredible opportunity for families to spend quality time together, get some fresh air and expand your education. Our package includes a twenty page booklet, STEM trail, a packet of pencils, orienteering maps and a certificate upon completion. Don’t worry, it’s not all brain work, the trail has plenty of jokes and anecdotes to keep those frowns upside down.

First up is the Millennium Park where you’ll aid Sonny, our park keeper discover it’s hidden secrets. Bite size nuggets of historical facts will help young detectives retain their discoveries. While a mix of geometry, counting and measuring will allow mini mathematicians develop lifelong learning skills. Future foragers will locate natural species using our keys.

After that our trail takes you through the beauty and natural landscape of Lismore to Lady Louisa’s walk. You’ll pass the riding house, the spout and St Carthages Well. You’ll learn who exactly Lady Louisa was. Immune systems will be boosted and stress reduced as you take in the crisp air provided by the beech, holly and ivy trees. Our keys encourage little fingers to dig in the mud and discover some of the most well known species of flowers. Explorers will find out how to identify trees by their leaves and uncover the oldest plant in the world. Families are encouraged to take a mindful moment to appreciate the wholesome view of the famous Blackwater River.

For future architects and historians our trail includes St Carthages Cathedral. You’ll learn the legend of the ‘Green Man’ and discover who is responsible for the famous tomb. For budding David Attenborough’s our wildlife key allows explorers to find foxes, red squirrels and even hedgehogs. Creative minds will get a chance to do some colouring and fish out the answers to our word games.
If this wasn’t enough, you’ll also get access to our Dinosaur Hunter Science Trail. Our mischievous historians have stapled dinosaurs all over the heritage centre for you to find. Each contains a clue to get you closer to your prize!

Found yourself with some extra free time this summer? Don’t forget that our Lismore Two Top Visitor Attractions is available. The Lismore Heritage Centre and Lismore Castle Gardens and Arts currently offer a joint ticket. Indulge in our movie where Brother Declan takes you on a journey through Monastic, Viking, Norman, and Medieval Lismore to the present day. It’s available in English, French, German and Italian. Then wander over to The Castle Gardens, where wide variety of beautifully maintained plants and trees, as well as a permanent sculpture collection, now featuring segments of the Berlin Wall await you.
