'The Booley House' show presents 90 uninterrupted minutes of authentic traditional music, alongside wonderful singing, Irish step and set dancing. The Booley House also fosters the unique legacy of the golden-tongued Irish story teller ('seanachai'). It's an exciting and fast-paced show that evolves every year, and the cast of over 60 of all ages are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Through it often travels around the world, The Booley House musical is staged every Wednesday night over the July and August months in the sleepy village of nearby Ballyduff, Co. Waterford. The show is well-known for its warm and intimate setting, where you are received with a welcoming cup of tea and some of the locally made cakes. This intimacy often continues to the local pub when the show ends, where the musicians and dancers have been known to gather for an impromptu session.
The show includes the very best of Irish music, song and dance. Resident 'seanachai' (storyteller) James Lenane is a well known personality, All-Ireland winner in his field, and is sure to have you laughing as he regales times past. The Booley House also includes the Michael Ryan School of Dancers, which encompass a wonderful range of original step dancing routines that always generate enthusiastic audience response. A number of former Booley House dancers from this school have performed in Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, and other well-known shows.
Local Set Dance teachers, Tom Hyland and Ciara Dunne, will have their dancers doing Irish sets, often exciting audience members to dance in the aisles. A recent innovation to the show is the introduction of the brush dancers, which have proved to be a showstopper.
The musicians provide a unique sound while performing on their traditional instruments. This has been the hallmark of the Booley House since the start. The resident musicians include nationally renowned artists Liam Flanagan, Tony Dunne, JJ Cooley, Áine Fitzpatrick, Jerry McKee and others. Singers Ber Browne, Frances Foley and Sarah O'Mahony treat their audience to the Irish melodies that reflect our heritage.
